There is several ways to handle this idea.
1) Using a external hard drive/CDRW you copy all the data to it that you want to keep (programs see below). Then copy it to the new laptop.
2) Purchase a 'cross over cable' (one used for computer-to-computer) and copy over the cable. If you are on a network then set both drives shared and then copy it that way.
3) File and Settings Transfer (its in windows xp system tools).
As for programs, its not possible these days to transfer programs because many installers put things all over the place to discourage moving software. If you have the origional install cd's and programs you can easily re-install them. What ever you do dont copy the entire windows parition from one computer to the other or you will be getting out the restore cd's and loosing a few hours of your life.
With any new laptop i suggest getting all the drivers updated and if they dont give you a install cd (OEM XP INSTALL DISC) to call them and demand one. Restore partitions copy alot of garbage most people dont use that slows down the computer significantly.

all files, photos and documents would be easily transferrable via a network connection. The next easiest would be burning to a CD and copying from the disk. There are also two way usb cables but they are expensive.
All software will likely have to be reloaded. I hope you saved your Product Serial #'s.

yes, np. either u need a cable connection or save files to thumbdrive or burn to DVD (three choices)
by far the fasted would be connecting ur computers with a network cable via a router of some sort.
if you dont have that you can buy a *straight through* cable (as opposed to a *patch cable*)
or u can buy a USB hub, connect both computer to that via cables and away u go
see, many ways... Its up to you and what u have available.
No, u cant save (copy) the old OS on ur old XP. (if thats what ur asking). You need the original installation CD ROM

I find the simplist way to transfer my documents and photo's between my two computers is a simple flash pen.I have a 1gig but you can buy bigger, mine cost £8 on net which included postage.
You dont have to set nothing up,just simply copy file to removable drive 'f' etc.
Plug into new laptop and copy to the destination folder you wish, simple easy and quick and you dont have to have a degree in quantum physic to do it.

There are many ways:
1. burn a CD(s)
2. buy a flash drive or some other portable hard drive that plugs into your usb port and transfer that way (an ipod works).
3. hook both laptops up to a network and share files

Yes transfer to either a memory stick, burn on CD or copy to external hard drive or even the internet or through a local network. Then plug in these devices (or connect to net if using that) on new laptop and simply copy and paste them on.
Best of luck.

Yes. You have to open up both laptops, take the hard drive out of one laptop that the files are in that you want to transfer and put it in the laptop that you want to transfer it to. Copy and paste the files from one hard drive to the other. You're done. :)

the best way is to use a jump drive to transfer the data. 2 gigs run about 30-60 dollars

Copying the data files is easy if you have a crossover network cable. Or if you use a router modem.
Copying programs is much harder if youy dont have the installation disks its usually impractical.
