Hi and congratulations and happy birthday. There are some important things you should know about the laptops. Do not ever ever have liquid near it like a soda or water etc.. If you accidentally spill it on it that ruins the laptop (Don't ask me how I know).

Do not get a mac as the software is hard to find for it and hardly no games. Instead get a pc. Also if you want to do gaming make sure you mention that to the person at bestbuy and ask them which is a good laptop pc for gaming?

Ask about THE VIDEO CARD inside. When it comes to gaming you want 3 things as much as possible.

1. Screen size (Not that important as the other 2 things)
2. Video card speed
3. Memory

If you have a good video card and good memory in your laptop it runs very smooth.

If you can't afford to get a lot of memory and a good video card both then SKIP the extra memory but be darn sure you get a good video card inside it.

DO NOT GET A LAPTOP THAT has onboard video. There are 2 types of video. Onboard which is a slow inexpensive version of video and you want be able to play games on it. Or a video card that is built into it.

Here is what you want to ask the guy when you get it. Ask, CAN THIS LAPTOP PLAY BATTLEFIELD 2? If it can play battlefield 2 then it can play other games. If they say No it can't then don't get that laptop.

You don't have to get a lot of memory for it right now as you can buy memory at a later time and add it in just by snapping it into the computer. But the video card is a must.

Also if you can get DUAL CORE laptop thats better and faster.

So things you wan't to remember are..
Dual core (I am at best buy web site they have lots of them) and a video card in it that will do gaming.

Make sure you ask about the video card and gaming because its a real let down when you get a cool laptop and then you can't run games on it.

When getting it tell them that you don't want ONBOARD video you want a fast video card. If they say it has Nvidia inside it that's good thats a video card name.

Very nice post - including the zip code was a good idea.

First, that laptop is pretty good for the price. People will probably tell you that Gateway is no good, or Dell, or whatever. Basically, just about any laptop in the price range you are looking for is about the same quality.

You are getting a 2ghz Turion 64 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a Geforce Go 6100 graphics chip.

Basically this will be a decent all around laptop. It will probably not play the games at max settings, but will play most. That is, most that support Windows Vista.

My best advice, for this laptop or any other, would be to get the extended warranty. Even though you seem pretty smart, you are still 14 going on 15. Chances are something will happen to break this laptop, either you or a friend, or it will "just break". It will be worth having the extra protection.

problem with buying a dell,hp,etc is that you get stuck with the video and sound they give you (more than likely onboard/integrated krap) if you can spair the $$ look into building your own system the way you want it that way you know its gonna play games and music and stuff and not hiccup on you
look around the internet a bit before you go buying a frigen dell,hp or other such garbage
