I've left the US in 1998 and haven't been back since. People who went to visit told me every once in a while that the atmosphere is "a bit weird" now. What do they mean? How is life these days in America? Can someone describe it to me?
Thanks.

The US of A is an unholy union of quasi-totalitarian POLICE STATES where the once-sacred Constitution is nothing but a worthless document that politicians, law-enforcers, etc. ceremoniously swear allegiance to "protect and defend" but have little intent of actually honoring. Americans have very few rights with regard to personal privacy. What started with the War on Drugs is being finished off with the War on Terror. Everybody is a suspect. Many people are paranoid because the government can NOT be trusted. That's probably what they mean by saying 'that the atmosphere is "a bit weird" now.'

God help US.

I guess we are still luckier than most countries, but I can't seem to trust in our government anymore. I also feel a tad embarrassed by the things our government has done in the past few years. I am lucky not to live in a country where women are n repressed or where I worry how to feed my children, but I do occasionally think of leaving. The US is really on a big ego trip.
