Dustine, there are literally SCORES of colleges in the U.S. that are good for majoring in dance; well over 100 for really good ones and probably hundreds that are decent. But NO ONE can create a list of the best college dance programs, as the best program for you depends on what you want to do in the dance field after college. Are you especially interested in performing, teaching or choreographing? Do you prefer ballet, modern, jazz or theater dance? Or do you want a program where you can be diversely trained without being forced to specialize?
The Dance Magazine College Guide is a good place to begin to narrow your search in finding the right program to meet your needs. However, since there are a few, noteworthy programs that may not be listed there, you should use other sources of information as well, along with a careful examination of all the programs' web sites that you're interested in. Most importantly, you will need to visit the colleges while they are in session in order to find the program that is right for you. Start with the colleges that are closer to you. Observe classes, see performances and even try to take a class with the students if you're in 11th grade. It is never too early to start visiting; don't put this off until your senior year of high school!

Towson University in Towson, Maryland, just north of Baltimore, has nationally ranked and recent championship dance teams. Girls who went to high school with me (c/o '99) went there and the program was good then and now still is.

While you are at it why not check on their remedial spelling and writing programs. You will need lots of classes beyond dance.

good thing you don't need to know how to spell to dance because you would be in remedial courses forever.
