I know doctors don't want to see you until you are about 8 weeks. But I have had a previous miscarriage, should I go to the doctor sooner than the 8 weeks?

I've had a previous miscarriage, too. My doctor didn't want me to come in until between 8 - 10 weeks this time around. The reason being that at 8 weeks or so, the doctor can perform a vaginal ultrasound to determine whether or not the pregnancy is viable and whether or not there is one or more babies on the way. Any earlier than 8 weeks and the ultrasound won't show anything. I was freaked-out and going mad with having to wait so long! I hate to wait (who doesn't). Just make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins and eating well in the meantime. I can't say that I have any advice for how to get over waiting so long, but know that I feel for what you are going thru. Hang in there. And I hope that everything works out!

I had a miscarriage in June of 2005. When I found out I was pregnant again in October, I called right away to make my appointment (my ob/gyn also does not want to see you until 8 weeks) and asked if since I had a previous m/c if they wanted to see me sooner. They checked w/ my doctor and he had said no, but if to make it easier for me, if I wanted to come in to have my HCG levels checked earlier than the 8 weeks I could. I decided not to go in early. I figured if everything was meant to be I could wait until my ultrasound at 8 weeks. Maybe your doc would allow you to do something like that.... just call and ask.
( had a healthy baby boy in June of 2006 - in case you were wondering)
Congrats on your pregnancy!!!

I don't know what it's like where you live, but I think I was about 14 weeks with my first kid getting into the OBGYN. I went to my family dr before then, but just couldn't get an appointment. If you are really concerned, go today! No need to wait and stress.

With this pregnancy I got to see the dr when I was about 8 weeks..and I was totally shocked. I know girls in the same prenatal group who didn't get in to see one until close to 20 weeks!

If it was just one miscarriage early in the pregnancy, then you're still not considered a high risk pregnancy. If you know the cause of your miscarriage (like a failed cervix) then your doctor may classify you as high risk and want to see you sooner.

I would call your doctor and make sure they know you had a miscarriage because they may want to see you sooner. They will let you know for sure. Good luck

Lucky! i wasnt seen till i was almost 12 wks!!!! Not trying to be mean but just becuase you had a misscarriage. Going earlier isnt going to help.. if you were to have another theres nothing the Dr's can do about it anyways. Which is why my place doesnt see ppl until 9-12wks. As long as your taking prenatals and eatting right etc. Yo should be ok til the 8wk :P I know it seems forever.. but hey.. like i said.. i had to wait til almost 12wks! GL!

You should do what you feel more comfortable with doing. Since you have had a previous miscarriage, then make a doctor's appointment.

They can't do anything for you regardless if you've miscarried in the past. Your doctor will send you for an ultrasound at your 8 week apointment and they'll ensure everything has attached and is forming properly. They can even see the heartbeat at that point.

Most(not all)will still make you wait until 8 weeks. You still really can't check on things until then anyway. Unless you have had an ectopic and then they want you in closer to 6 weeks.
