(not just from Mexico)
I realize since Mexico is just south of us and has been a pressing issue recently that they're probably the first group to come to mind ,but I'd like to know what you about immigration as a whole. At what point ,in your mind, do you draw the line on how much is too much and what is culturally acceptable? What do you think makes an "American". As a country I think we've been brought up to envision a pure, Christian, Go team go idealism when we think of what America is supposed to be as opposed to the melting pot concept that's often written on paper but not often thought of when ideaologies come to mind. What do you think?

I think melding IS the thing that makes us unique. You can't go in any other country and order eggrolls for dinner, go down the block and have creme brulee` for dessert:)
Oh yeah...apple pie and baseball!
Even most of our recognized American traditions were carried down through immigration. They are just better established.

Dang, don't get so heated. I understand and respect all of your view points.
First of all I think its hipocritical to say that all immigrants must have a job lined up when there are so many Americans drawing welfare. As for the notion that America was overtaken by the Anglos, its true and you have a valid point ,however, all countries have been taken over in someway or another and most do not carry their original inhabitants as pointed majority or authority. Chill, I'm half Filipina. part Irish, part English, and part Cherokee, I get it.

Dude,

Mexicans have ridden their horses and driven their cattle through what is now the USA since time began..

450 years ago.. THERE WERE NO AMERICANS!! only Mexicans and Indians in USA..

NOW they're illegal immigrants???

I think Americans are the illegal immigrants if you ask me..

Let's not forget.. USA is founded by the Anglo Saxons who collonised the land and wiped out the natives..

AND for thousands of years prior.. the only inhabitants of that land were latinos.. it was always their land.. till only 400 odd years ago..

I think USA will have a constant battle in perptuity with the Latinos for this reason.. and there is even the possiblity that in a few hundred years.. the States will be totally swamped by illegals coming from all directions.. in part due to Americas policies towards the Latinos which has always been to keep them from growing, whilst milking all the oil, gas and other resources in the region for themselves only!

Let's face it.. America has not been a very good new neighbor in the hood has it..

I think there is a fine line between a belief in multiculturalism and losing identity as a country. If you lose all forms of cultural unity then theres really no point in having individual countries, we may as well just all become one big america or something because all the lines would be merged anyways. I think if you want to immigrate to a country you should have to adapt to their ways and be grateful for the opportunities it allows you - otherwise you should just stay where you are. If I want to up and move to France tomorrow, I wouldnt go over there and expect them all to respect my customs and language and give me days of for my holidays from the old country etc.

In think illegal immigrants(from Mexico mainly) are bad, but if they weren't here, who would work at the fast food restaurants? No one else would want to work in those cheap paying places. It's not really fair because Mexican government is forcing immigrants from other countries out of their country, yet they are forcing their own people into America!

I think we have way too many people as it is, but if someone is going to come here, they must speak English, and have a job lined up that will pay for all their needs.Oh, and one more thing, I never want to hear the phrase, "my country" from them to mean any other country, if they expect to be welcome here. If you live here, THIS is "your country."

We are a country of great opportunity. If others want to come here, great. We are lucky to have what so many countries don't.
