This could be as much a question in the Philosophy category as the Scientific.
Scientists have bored deeply into the crust of the earth which is only five to twenty-five miles thick, depending on which textbook you read and depending where it is located. The crust is thinner under the oceans. Beneath the crust is the hot magma region which is about fifteen hundred miles thick. This is the source of lava when it comes through the crust as volcanoes.
The temperates would be far too hot for anything living to be there, much less people. The core is a molten ball of metal.
The Bible does not teach that dead people live in the core of the Earth. For one thing, they are, er, dead. For another thing the concept of an ever-burning torture chamber for the souls is not of biblical origin. It is not of the real God. It is from an ancient pagan superstition of about 500 BC easily documented in most encyclopedias and exploited by the medieval Catholics and then their Protestant divisions to this day
Why would "the government" could care about some ignorant concept of such a Hell. They can't tax it and they can't get votes from Hell. However, sometimes you wonder. But preachers love Hell. It's good for their business of telling people what they expect to hear whether it is true or not.

Sometimes the church will get hold of a story and change it to suit their needs and keep their members in the flock. The truth is that scientists haven't drilled or dug very far into the earth's crust at all. Only to about 12km below the surface. Due to technical difficulties that's about the limit. At that depth the heat and pressure are too great to go any further. The only screams and yelling that was herd were from the drillers when their equipment failed.

Regardless of what happens in the movie, "The Core", no one has ever drilled deeper that several km into the Earth's crust. So, we haven't even come close to getting near the core. And even if we did, 1) the government would not be able to hide it, and 2) there would not be any screaming because hell is an imaginary concept.
Beware of anything that you "learn" in church and also on the internet.

It's not the kind of scientific study that you've probably thought of. Deepest Mine: The Gold Fields Ltd company intends to set a new record by drilling down 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) at its Driefontein mine, about 37 miles (60 kilometers) southwest of Johannesburg. Deepest oil drills: A drill is plunging down through 4,000 feet of ocean and more than 22,000 feet of shale and sediment — a syringe prodding Earth's innermost veins. That 5-mile shaft will soon give Chevron the deepest active offshore well in the Gulf.

I read about that awhile back. I don't remember how old the story is, but it's made up to try and scare you into doing what is right.

Look at what the Bible says:

Matthew 13:40-42; Job 21:30,32; John 5:28,29 says ungodly will be cast into hell at the end of this world when Jesus returns.

When people die they are asleep in the grave until Christ returns to resurrect them. (Jesus often talked about the dead being asleep.) Then everyone is given their reward - good or bad. There is no one burning in hell now.

The deepest they have ever drilled a few miles. The core is something like 4 thousand miles away. We haven't even gotten close. They were mistaken. The earth is filled with rocks and the core is liquid iron and nickel on the outside and solid iron nickel on the inside.

Just another of the false things you sometimes hear in Church.

There are many reasons to go to church. Learning facts is NOT one of them. Almost anything told to you in church as a "fact" is probably wrong.
