Yes. Despite owning a Mercedes Sedan, I decided that there were far better cars for a week long trip in the winter. I rented a Dodge Grand Caravan for my wife and her mother to make a trip to Colorado in January. They reported it was the best trip they had ever taken and the biggest reason was the van. They had lots of room, the van drove easily, got great mileage, and traveled through snow, slush, and ice like a trooper. The total cost was under $250.00 including all of the extras like the upgraded insurance and tire chains. I consider it well worth the price, just for the wear and tear and mileage to be on someone else's car.

I have done it often. Sometimes, the major companies have great deals.
Check with your credit card company that you will use to pay for the rental if they cover the insurance or see if your current auto insurance carrier will cover it. Avoid using the rental car company's insurance if at all possible. It is very expensive. Also, make sure there are no exclusions as far as where you cannot go (in many instances, you cannot take the car over the border. If you do, you can be assessed major penalties (they can track most of their cars using GPS technology. Do not accept their gas option - just take the car back with a full tank.
Happy driving.

I do it all the time.
I rent from Jersy (airport) and go down the east coast once every two months.
Get unlimited milage and go with a reputable company not Bubba's hunk o' junk rentals. You will be happier, it may be a few more bucks but peace of mind if it does break down is priceless.
Do NOT get the added insurance. Most ikely you are covered under your own insurance. (ask your agent to be sure)

I have, but it's always cheaper to find public transportation to where ever you are going, and rent a car by the day once you get there. Yes, there will be a deposit, not to mention costs for going over the mileage.

I purely rented a automobile with the aid of Avis. I went from KY to FL approximately 800 miles. Avis has limitless mileage for a weekly apartment and did no longer truly care that i became driving it to FL, They even asked me if i needed a Hybrid for gas fees. I paid somewhat over 3 hundred$ for the weeks apartment, thats with ins.

Do not opt. for the added insurance on their vehicle. Your personal automotive policy covers any surprises. Call your ins. carrier to be sure. These rental places use all kinds of scare tactics to chill you into the added ins. policy. Always return the car with a full tank of gas. Make sure it's full when you rent it.

Just make sure you get a contract with unlimited miles! I rented a new Ford truck to go to Colorado when my transmission went out. It was great, brand new, no worries!

Sure - check with priceline.com or hotwire.com and look for weekly specials. Unlimited miles and if you go with a national company, if you have car trouble along the way - they bring you a replacement!
