Replacement is as easy as 2 or three bolts. and a vacuum line.
You have to replace you can not repair

I have a 1996 Bonneville SSEI which was the first year for the Series 2 supercharged L67. I can tell from experience that a 96 SSEI will beat a 97+ Grand Prix GT coupe and sedan but it will loose to a buick GS and a GTP coupe but its about even with a GTP sedan. The 2000 SSEI is about 200 pounds heaver than the 96 to 99 SSEI. But if I had to guess I would say that the 2000 SSEI would be faster than the Grand Prix GT. The 96 to 99 SSEI is about the same size as the GP sedan and I have to say that my SSEI handles very well for a large sedan it also breaks very good as well. The newer SSEI is supposed to have a stiffer unit body than mine it also has wider tires and better brakes.

FIX? No. Replace? Yes. The hard part is getting to it. If it a 3800, it sits right on top. Three nuts and a vacuum hose and your done. Sometimes they bury it and you may need to remove the "dog-bones" front engine torque supports and then rock the motor fore ward to get to it.
COST IS ANOTHER THING.....

It is fairly simple to replace, but they generally get plugged up with carbon deposits and you can buy some cleaner spray for a few bucks and just clean it out.

Easy enough. Unplug the tube, take out the bolts, remove old. put new on on, bolts back in, hose on, wash hands. Done.
