Depends on their age. Their is a type of birth control that reduces the amount to 3-4 periods per year. Ask your doctor. This probably wouldn't be a good idea for anyone who has just began menstration but 16-18 would probably be okay. Ask your Gyno. When taking this you can plan around vacations etc. I think its called orthoevora.

If you take birth control pills and you skip the "blank" pills that cause your period you can supposedly stop your period but you should talk to a doctor before you do that.
