Personally, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc...) works for me. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory drug. This has helped me when I've had cramps that have doubled me over with pain. You MUST take it with food or milk though.
Another thing that helps me is to lie in bed on my stomach, covered up. The heat and relaxation helps if the cramping is mild. It also will help if you've just taken medicine and you're waiting for it to start working.
If I can't lie down, covering my pelvic area with a blanket, jacket, etc... helps create the warmth to relax the uterus and ease the cramping.
There are lots of pain relievers out there, but don't take aspirin when you're menstruating. Aspirin thins the blood and can increase bleeding during your period.
Good Luck and I hope you feel better!

I use alot of Motrin and heating pads. If you need to be up and about go to Walgreens and get Cura Heat pads. They work like a heating pad w/out the cord. I use them at least 5 days a week. I suffer from Endometriosis and the cramping bites big time, but the Cura Heat pads really work wonders.

Try Aleve or Naproxen sodium( the generic version) over the counter. Take it with food. It helps to decrease the production of prostaglandins, which cause cramps. It works best if you take it as soon as you notice symptoms.

What I do is take some aspirin and while I wait for that to kick in I lay on my bed in a ball and try to apply pressure to my bladder while drinking cold water. It's hard to explain but it works.
