If you help someone and expect something in return you are going to be sorely disappointed over and over again. The whole idea of being truly helpful and charitable is that you DON'T expect something in return because you know the world doesn't revolve around you. It's about being bigger than just you and extending yourself and your talents to others. I have also found that the old Karmaic idea of "what goes around comes around" is really true when it comes to helping people and being generous with your time and money. If you help others without expecting anything in return then you'll get help when you need it.

When I was younger, I wouldn't even bother to thank people for gifts. Indeed, if I didn't like the gift, I would even criticise it in front of the person in question. Whenever someone asked me for just a little bit of help, I would always tell them they owed me a bar of chocolate, a doll, etc... in return. However, I gradually learnt to appreciate simple things, and realised Kindness costs nothing. I wish more people would realise this. If everyone helped just one person, the world would be a wonderful place.

To be honest in a way yes i do .But not from whoever i might have helped .I believe in karma so i believe every thing i do has a repercussion .I try my best to avoid doing any thing bad because it`ll come back on me so if i believe that i have to think the same about if i do something good
this isn`t to say that if i helped someone that would be my motive for helping .it doesnt work like collecting brownie points for future use

Nope. If i help someone i expect nothing in return. I help because i want to, not for some selfish gain. But they do say that helping another brings its own rewards. Don't know about that one though. Just help on instinct.

I used to ... and sometimes go back to old way ... but I've been recently taught --- When I give, I give it to God - not to a cause - not to a person === so God owes me and the only thing he's promised is Life eternal in his Glorified presence if I believe in Jesus. Ah, this is all a BIG work in progress 4 me.

No, if you do you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Saw a good, gushy film called Pay it Forward. When someone does a kind act for you, instead of paying them back you do an act of kindness for 3 other people. Hence you don't pay it back, you pay it forward.

Sentimental I know.

No. I help folks because they need help. If I were to help them in order to get something in return then I would really be helping myself.

Random acts of kindness are the coolest.

"Be so busy giving praise, gifts and happiness to others that you need no other reward than the gift of thanks, ignorance to be fascinated with or the simple outbreak of a smile upon the recipients face".
