I am trying unsuccessfully to set my standard "Users" group to be able to Read, write and modify any file they have access to but not allow them to delete or create folders or subfolders (I am giving that right to only one person in the company to keep everything orderly).

My settings below only seemed to allow my users read-only access to files which was really bizarre. This is what I enabled for them which I thought would work (yes to the following and zero denys):

- Traverse Folder / Execute File
- List Folder / Read Data
- Read Attributes
- Read Extended Attributes
- Create Files / Write Data
- Write Attributes
- Write Extended Attributes
- Delete
- Read Permissions

What was wrong with this? Is there not a way to accomplish the setting I am looking to do?

Please be as detailed as possible with your answer... I am finding this all very confusing.

Yep - pretty much. Some programs require delete privilages as they delete prior versions when they save. I'm reasonably certain Word is one program like this. Meaning if you set things the way you wanted (thought you could), then you could end up with DOZENS or even HUNDREDS of versions of a word document as people wouldn't be able to save the modified version as anything other than a new file name.

Is the server set up as an internet site controller? you need to have an internet site controller dealing with the login risk-free practices for the area. Then the report server isn't attempting to authenticate each and every person as credentials are surpassed to the server.
