I have a 10 month old filly that has been diagnosed with either EPM or wobblers. The only way that they can tell for sure is to have her get a myleogram. Unfortunately, I cannot afford this treatment for her. If she doesn't get a myleogram to pinpoint what is wrong with her then she will have to be put down. I simply cannot handle that and would like for her to have a chance at living if she can be treated. I haven't stopped crying since we got her bloodwork back and the thought of having to euthanize her just tears me up. I am in Fort Worth, Texas if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

This isn't an answer to your question, just an expression of sympathy and some more info. I'm so sorry for your news..

Sadly, both EPM and wobblers have a very poor prognosis if treatment isn't started very *very* early on. I've read your other post wondering what might be wrong with your baby the day before the vet visit, and was praying it wasn't serious. Unfortunately, the more time that passes, the lower her chances of survival.

Please consider euthanasia. She can have a peaceful end in your arms. It's truley much more kind than watching a loved one suffer for days on end, thrashing and panicking.

Again, I"m so very sorry you have to go through this.

Talk to Best Friends Animal Society, they live for this sort of thing. The only problem is that they are in Utah. Usually if the case warrants it though, they will pay for transportation and such.
Below is the link to their website and here is the other contact information:

This must be a difficult situation for you. I don't own horses so I don't know alot about them, but try looking for a horse rescue organization in your area. You can google horse rescue in Texas and see if anything comes up.

Avoid animal control or city owned organizations - I wouldn't trust them since I know that sometimes places give up horses to slaughterhouses for meat. This would be terrible!

I hope everything works out...

However, if you cannot find a rescue or anybody with a good heart to adopt this poor horse, I think you may have to think about euthanazia (putting the horse to sleep)...

Good luck to you sweetie :(

I would contact different Vet schools across the country. I know ours here in Auburn will often times take donated animals to use in the teaching hospital. Often times ones with interesting and unusual diseases or conditions will be taken in to teach with. These horses will get the best of care because they are constantly being looked after by Doctors and Vet students. That would be your best bet. You'll probably have to contact alot of them, because most are on limited space and availability. Best of luck, I know you'll do what's best for her!

Of course! Call the ASPCA. Even if you can't find one really near by call one that is even somewhat close to you and they will take the horse. I believe there is one in Houston, Texas. They will treat the horse and find her a great home.
Please call the ASPCA! Look one up online. Even if you can't bring the horse to them they will make arrangments to pick up the horse.
Goodluck!

There are many organizations such as habitatforhorses.org or equinenet.org

Just be careful as to not give her away to just anyone ... there are slaughter houses there and you never know what kind of sick person might pick her up just to cut her up.

They may also be able to direct you to funding resources.
