My son's birthday is on March 2nd. I know that is also Dr. Seuss's birthday so I was thinking about doing that theme. However, he's only going to be one and I don't think he's going to remember it. There will be children there from ages 2 months to 10. Any idea for what they can do? It is cold here and we have tons of snow so there aren't many activities for them to do. Any tips or advice would be very helpful. Thanks everyone!

Fun! You could continue with the Dr. Suess theme and the the green eggs and ham...use green food coloring in the eggs; oh well I did it once no one was terribly thrilled though...

Now my first idea when I read your question was do a collage. Create it with cardboard you get at Wally World's stationary section...you remember...the one's we had to use in high school. And create a memory collage of each month of his birth with the pictures you've taken. Labelling them "1 Month" "2 Months", etc. Make the background with some of your favorite Suess' characters if you wish. Or since video cameras are all the rage and you have a bit of skill (or know someone that does) do it through video/CD and show that.

As far as activities. don't worry about that. Invite everyone over for cake, punch, ice cream, finger sandwiches and pictures and opening of presents. Why? Well, 1 year old's have a short attention span, he'll get tired and then you may have to remove yourself to care for him. Most kids are thrilled with cake and ice cream. Wait a few years and do the big activities then. The general rule for birthdays is this; for every year of birth that is how many 'friends' is appropriate. So a big shebang sounds great but I just don't want you to knock yourself out. Now that I put my (usually) useless 2 cents in, let's talk activities just in case.

A bean bag toss, wagon rides, and story time are some ideas for activites that your little guy and others can enjoy. If you want to go themed with Dr. Suess perhaps, look for small toys that might be sold that go with the theme... not alot come to mind right now due to the current themes of Doris the Explorer, Spiderman, etc. However there are packs of whistles, erasers, and other small trinkets sold in the party section of most stores. There are other options too like blowing bubbles, stuffed animals, tinker toys, or pencils/pads. The best thing about favors like bubbles or pencils is that they come in multiples. You can buy a six pack of bubbles or 12 pencils for one price.

No matter what, PLEASE HAVE FUN!! Don't stess out over small stuff, enjoy yourself, your son and your friends and family.

Hmm... my cousins have had Snowball machines, spacewalks, petting zoo people, things that go to your house. They regret it after. So much to clean. I reccomend the ever so popular bouncy houses. They entertain the kids and some even cover the food. I'm not sure on pricing, but there's no work. A party at a park or zoo could be a fun outing for other mommies and kids or family. Just get some finger foods to munch on and a cake or cookies and you're set. Kids like that stuff and October would give you BEAUTIFUL weather for an outdoor party.

When my grandson turned 1 on 3-4-06, we had quite a few kids, mostly younger, but a few were up to 11. We set up one specific table with coloring books and crayons. That kept 4 or 5 of them busy off and on. We also had bowls of pretzels and animal crackers at every table. And, we didn't give them their goodie bags until they were leaving, so they wouldn't get out their toys and lose them. They were set up based on ages, as we knew who all were coming.

hes one he wont remember but most moms want to do something special. first if theres a walmart near you they have good cakes really cheap, i did pooh for my kids first bday. if you tell them its the kids first bday theyll give you a small cake for free for him to smash his face in. i had cake ice cream, hotdogs, punch, small goodies for the older kids and adults.blow up some ballons and trow them all over the place, kids love to play with ballons. you could let the big kids play with bubbles, by the time everyone strolls in, eats, open gifts and cut the cake, itll be over before you know it.
