any honest person from the ivy league will tell you that the profs inflate grades, this is a fact. many of the courses, especially intro courses, are exactly the same. if you are taking intro to psychology it is pretty much going to be the same everywhere, yale and harvard cannot do much to make the course super hard. The major difference is when you get to your upper level courses, where the ivy leagues have a larger variety to pick from. also many of them have great connections with companies, so their placement office can hook you up for a decent job/internship after graduation. i'd say that the best thing about the ivy league is the networking. you make great connections with other students and profs that can really help you out.

The benefits to an Ivy League School are the quality and reputation of the professors, and the contacts that you make while in school. You certainly can find terrific teachers at other schools, and it is true that it is often harder to get in than to stay in. that being said, the people I know who have gone to Ivy league schools have loved their school experience, 100%, while that cannot be said about others.

As best I can tell, there is not a whole lot of difference between ivy leaque coursework and state university coursework. However, the price is much higher for ivy league colleges.

Ivy League schools don't necessarily have more difficult classes, what they do have is an opportunity to network, celebrated professors, beautiful campuses and higher tuition...and yes they are harder to get into

Consider Harvard University and The University of Minnesota. One is considered by many to be the best university in the US. The other is an excellent state university -- but not as highly rated as many other more selective state universities (Berkeley, Virginia, Michigan, etc).
My claim is that the best people coming out of Minnesota are as well educated and as bright as the best students coming out of Harvard. However, the average student coming out of Harvard is much better educated and brighter than the average student coming out of Minnesota.
You CAN get a great education at Minnesota. but you WILL get a great education at Harvard.
The great Harvard student will have more doors open to him. The great Minnesota student will do well -- but will have to prove he wasn't someone who skated by.
There are some disciplines where you learn as much from your classmates as you do from your professors. If you are at a highly selective school -- then you will have a better opportunity to learn from your peers.
