I think the people of the United States have taken giant steps toward full integration in the past five decades. Unfortunately, the government perpetuates divisions between races through their various programs. The problem will begin to go away when it has been agreed that school and government forms will no longer require the submitters to indicate their racial or ethnic group designation. When the government stops keeping race-based records and providing benefits where race is a determining factor, the last vestiges of the archaic racial categories and discrimination will fade.
Of all the things that make a person worthy of respect in our society, the color of one's skin is probably the least important.

Well, people realize such things because not even 50 years ago blacks couldn't even go to the same restrooms as whites or eat at the same public restaurants. Blacks see things like "the first black president" and "the first black NFL head coach to win a super bowl" as progression within the black community. Why does it bother you so much?

That will happen when racism has ended so it's not going to happen anytime soon from what I see. Segregation is not just a black and white thing but and American things but there is more emphasis put of black and white since blacks were slaves a lil over 100 years ago.

What you are pointing to is NOT segregation. It is simply the matter of breaking the race barriers at the top. It IS happening, just not as fast as it should. If you talk to successful black people, the problem is with the people that dwell on the problem, not the people who go for success, and who support success of blacks and stay out of the way.

I think it's one big circle....people are still being racist towards one another and soon after that violence occurs....people kill ,steal and other stuff from one another and even if no one wants to open their eyes.. it stems from being pushed into the background because of your color or some emotion problem(like your enviroment).....which is weird cause if this never existed (racism) wouldn't everyone have an equal chance to do good??
people usually act the way they are expected(societies view) to so if you expect the worse of them then usually that's what you get.....

After there's no more first.
Nobody cares if it's the second or the third, it's only the first that makes the big impact. Once we get all the firsts of different nationalities out of the way, nobody will care anymore and it'll all fade away.

It is never going to happen because there will always be someone who believes a person with a different color of skin is below them or don't deserve as much. No matter what they accomplish. It's sad but true.

Unfortunately never. For some odd reason a lot of people seem to have it in their heads that minorities aren't really supposed to perform as well as whites, so when they do people make a big deal about it. It's an ignorant and really annoying way of thinking.

I blame the media. When manufactured racial tension stops making money, then that will be the first major step toward people being allowed to just be people.
