A king of Judah. He first destroyed the cult images or "idols" of Baal in the land. In the third year of his reign he sent out priests and Levites over the land to instruct the people in the Law.
Then he married a woman from Ahab, and went back to idolatry. It led to war. When he came back home, he was confronted by the prophet Jehu, repented, and returned to his former course of opposition to all idolatry, and started again worshiping of God.
That is why "jumping" - because he changed his mind, "jumped" from one side to another.
