I sang from a hymn book in assembly called 'Come and Praise' but when we had our music lesson we sang things like She'll be coming round the mountain' 'Grand old green machine' 'Catch a fallng star' and other songs for specific events like harvest festival.

Wht did you sing as a child??

Great question! I attended Kindergarten through 3rd grade in the same school, and we had musical programs every year for the parents. The school I attended after that didn't have such programs. I'd love to know what music book they used in that school but haven't taken the time to track it down.

I remember singing these songs:

Kindergarten
My Country Tis of Thee (America)
This Land Is Your Land
Pussywillow Song
Letter People (reading program) songs - each letter had a little ditty written about it ("I'm Mr. M, with a munchy mouth...")

1st-3rd Grades
Mama Paquita
Scratch Me Back
Michigan, My Michigan
Up With People
Señor Don Gato
The Cat Came Back
Horsey, Horsey
The Ghost of John
Stirring My Brew
The Happy Wanderer
Down in the Valley
We Are Marching To Pretoria
Red River Valley
Happy Song
Never Smile at a Crocodile
Sing, Sing a Song
Kum ba ya
Frere Jacques
Michael Row the Boat Ashore (when we learned about singing in rounds)

Oh, I did just remember learning a couple of songs in 5th grade at the other school:

Give My Regards to Broadway
Bless the Beasts and the Children

Thanks for letting me reminisce!!

If you want to know a very good vocal coach try to visit https://tr.im/eYNH4 an online vocal coaching tutorial. Everything, ranging from breathing fundamentals, vocalizing exercises, techniques on singing high and low notes, how to not go off-key/out of tune/off-sync, musicianship and music theory, proper diction and articulation, and a lot more are covered, all in our native language. It can be quite technical in nature, but it really helps since it covers the musical aspect of singing deeply and not just concentrates on how to impress people with your vocal range, riffs and runs and other cliches that do not necessarily make one a complete vocalist.

I went to French school as a kid so we sang things like Frère Jacques, Allouette, Sur le Pont D'avignon and stuff like that. At Christmas they would make us sing a really lame one called Petit Papa Noël. *shudders* When I got older I joined a real choir.
