He chose U2 as a campaign theme song, he doesn't want to discuss his race. Isn't he a proud black man? Methinks he may be an Uncle Tom, upset about his race. Is he an uncle Tom?

Uncle Tom isn't a racist remark. I feel he's not being true to his african roots, thats all.

Again, I said AFRICAN roots, not "ghetto" roots, If you can't see the difference between the two then it is YOU who are the racist.

It's a black thing - you wouldn't understand.

[ADDED] Wow, four thumbs down for me so far? Look, my point is that you're raising some sort of red herring, trying to sow discord over something that is really not relevant to you, judging by your picture. (It's not relevant to me, either.)

Apparently you like all black candidates to shuck and jive - that's your clear implication, and THAT is what makes your question a racist question. Who are YOU to say what or how he feels - or should feel - about his heritage? Am I supposed to care how you feel about your own, too?

There have been some interesting discussions on several NPR programs on this very topic - and it's very clearly an issue relevant to SOME in the African-American community... for reasons good OR bad, I couldn't, and WOULDN'T, say.

No, he isn't.

After reading your question and addendum, I think you have a very limited view of blacks. If a white candidate chose James Brown's "Living in America", I wouldn't jump up and say "Sellout! He should have used a song by U2 or the Beach Boys!" I've been told by whites that I'm not "black-black" because I don't use slang, aren't terribly hip or don't meet their limited ideas of what it is to be black. I've been accused of "trying to be white" because of the same reasons above...plus being educated and professional. You can't win for losing. It's disappointing that no one discusses my character, no recognizes that blacks cover as wide a spectrum of the human experience in our race as do whites and others. Just like whites, Latinos, Asians and others, we aren't all alike.

As a black woman, Obama is not getting a free vote from me, neither are Democrats or Hillary. The person who gets my vote will be the one the addresses Iraq, education, housing, crime and the economy...the same issues that confront EVERY regardless of race or background. He shouldn't have to discuss his race; it seems to be an issue for everyone else so that their problem. When I apply for a job, I shouldn't have to have a conversation about my race; it's my qualifications that count. Why can't it be enough that he's a proud man? At what point are we going to have an honest dialogue about race in this country, then move beyond that and deal with people on the basis of character?

I live in a predominately white state; when I get up in the morning and have to communicate with someone, their race is of little importance to me unless they do something to make it an issue. I'm not going to call you a racist, I just think that you haven't really examined your question.

What do you expect all blacks to say yassir massa I bees good.

He is intellegent and the fact that he happens to have an African father shouldn't make any difference.

The only people upset about Senator Obama's race are people for whom race matters. Even though there is no proof that would indicate one race is superior to any other.

U2 is a great band and if the Senator wants to use it so be it. He could have picked an aria from Aida for all I care. It is his choice and is so probably because he likes U2. If he doesn't like U2 he is going to hear so much of it he will either have to change it or get used to it.

Uncle Tom is a name made up by blacks who are too lazy to achieve, to punish those who do achieve. If I were black, I'd rather be called an Uncle Tom than live in the ghetto and gang bang.I may not agree with Obama's politics, but I admire him for having the stones to take the steps he's taken in his life.

Uncle Tom died many years ago, I have always heard him say that is proud of his race. His dad was black and his mother was white , I have never heard him say anything bad about any race. He is a brilliant man and I hope Hillary Clinton takes office along with her intelligent husband that Obama will be her Vice President. That would be a dream team, why keep bringing up Uncle Tom that sounds so foolish and childish.

He is not an Uncle Tom. He is the product of a white mother and a Kenyan father. I think he is a very intelligent and moral man.

Whats he supposed to use as a song... G-Unit. Does he have to "keep it real"? Quit stereotyping blacks. Not all blacks are gangsta lovin' rappers. Did you ever think that he likes U2? Millions of people do. I think he is proud of his mixed race heritage and screw you if you can't handle it. By the way... I'm a republican.

You know, I wouldn't vote for him but I think pointing out or focusing on his race is going to backfire on our conservative party. So if you don't mind, please refrain from throwing around racist remarks about the man. Thank you.

Why should he discuss his race? It's not a substantive issue.
