(a) the first card must be a spade and the second must be a heart?

Each event has two outcomes. If you drew a diagrm for each outcome you would have 2 branches, doing this 5 times you would end up with 32 possible paths (2^5 = 32).


Choosing a spade from the deck provides an option for one of 13 possibilities. The second card being a heart, their is again 1 in 13 possibilities. Thus there are 13*13 =169 ways.

If the second card must be a spade, then you only have 12 options for the second card and thus 13*12 = 156 ways.
