say about it. But be wary, while some sites glorify the magic of the number (Alexander the Great cut the Gordian Knot at age 23, Adam and Eve are said to have had 23 children), others reveal the dark curse of it (2/3 is .666, the Mayans believe the world will end on December 23, 2012).

There is no enigma. It is a publicity stunt for a second rate film. I can produce similar 'coincidences' for any number. Anyway, in numerology, 23 becomes 2+3 = 5.

As far as I know, the four men most responsible for glorifying the numerological aspects of this number (in the 1900's) were Robert Anton Wilson (who died just last month), Dr. Timothy Leary, William S. Burroughs and Aliester Crowley.

They were attempting to elevate its importance it would seem because they wanted to see a breakthrough in human consciousness. The number 23's greatest significance is in the double helix of 23 paired chromosomes of the human DNA.

The 23 "phenomenon" is a product of the above author's intentions to create a mystical spell. Wilson often talked about the synchronisities of 23 in his writings.

In my own experience, it was truly replicable with both myself and acquaintances. But a true mystic understands how it is possible to force this conclusion by doing exactly what these men did in there writings, and that an individual can have the exact same results by meditating on anything, such as the color of your new car, which you will begin to notice on all new cars you see.

In a much larger mystical tradition, the I Ching refers to it as the number of "Falling Apart", which to me means the point at which hybris finally collapses. I hope that is true if it refers to this point in time, but if it refers to the end of humanity, that would be a shame.

It could also be the sincere interest of the authors to inspire evolution to the next paired chromosome, but then why not make a more positive contribution to the number than a tv series about torturing terrorists?

It would seem that many of us are preoccupied with numbers and money.I wonder how the producers of this movie had calculated our response to this movie by wanting to see it at the show before it comes out on DVD? As for the date of the Mayans; I'm still curious as to how accurate that date is regardless of you posting it wrong as an example. Even though it is an astronomical event, the day and the hour seems questionable although inevitable. That will be something we will all get to see for free and yet still for a price.

I have no idea. But the Mayans (along with others) believe the world will end on Dec. 21, 2012 - which is the winter solstice - not the 23rd.
