I hope he retires. I don't see him signing with another team. He's disappointed that the Yankees did'nt sign him but there's no room for him. Melky is coming into his own and should be given a chance. Damon and Matsui do a capable job in the outfield and with the addition of Abreu there's no room for Bernie.

No...he wants to play for the yankees.....he doesn't want to be in their minor league system which is what their proposed contract stated.

I don't think Bernie would play with any other team. He would probably want to retire as a Yankee since that is the only team he's been on.

I think it's really sad to see this happen to Bernie. He helped the Yankees win 4 world series rings and now he can't even be on the bench? That's a horrible way to treat someone, but especially Bernie.

While I certainly can appreciate the contributions Williams made to the Yankees, I think that he was really more of a good player who happened to be very well liked by the fans than he was a great player. As a Cubs fan, I would compare him to Mark Grace - pretty good career, was with the team a long time, and was popular with the fans, but certainly not great by any means. And although I appreciate him, I think the retiring of a number should be reserved for only the great ones, not the really good ones. I just don't think that Williams is in the same league as Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio, Berra, etc. Edit - quick note for the Sophisticated One - you are close to correct - when the Yankees retire Jeter's #2, there will be one single digit number left - #6 (currently worn by Girardi)

It's not that he doesn't want to play for the Yankees. He doesn't feel he should have to sign a minor league deal and work his way onto the team. I agree with him. He's done a lot for them and they should make a spot for him.

Not too many teams will make room for him on there roster. He's not as swift in the outfield as he once was but he still could be that platoon player in a small ball park.

yea i think bernie should go to the west because some teams really need experience because if i was in bernies position i would have been doin the same thing i want a sure position with the yanks and if they dont want to meet those rights ill move on

I think Bernie Williams can be an asset as a dh for any AL team.I would think he would fit best with the Angels who could use another bat .

Bernie is a Yankee. It just wouldn't be right to see him in another uniform. I hope he retires. He had a wonderful career and hopefully one day will end up in Cooperstown.

If it were me I'd stay with the Yankees. I'm not a Yankee fan but they're still the team I'd want to play for.

I heard that he refused to play for the Yankees on a minor league contract. He isn't gone yet.
