We are for now.
Bush has another agenda.
He has not even told America about it yet.
He dropped THIS bomb in Mexico about his plans for Canada and America and Mexican union. None of us signed up for THIS.
Plan to be SHOCKED!!!

I must say, after reading these answers here, I will relish our separation from America for as LONG as possible. Free Trade was bad enough. Union with you guys would be hell. You make great friends, but .... let us leave it at that... guess we don't need to look far for enemies huh?
The hatred and ignorance of people like ChaCha is appalling.
Also interesting how I get thumbs down before people have a chance to look at the URL I used here. They must just be judgmental or something.

The US tried to take over what is now Canada and failed. The Americans would have lost the war of independence except for the help of the French.
The Queen of England is merely a figure head represented in Canada by the Governor General also a figure head whose biggest responsibility is entertaining visiting dignitaries.
We are an independent country and didn't have to go to war and use terrorist strategies to oust the British.

The same reason Mexico is a separate country. If you look at a world map, you will note that many countries share a single continent.

Yep, just wait a few years....the US, Canada and Mexico WILL become one nation. It's in the works as we speak. Just look up the Trans-Texas Super Corridor and the NASCO project. They are being built NOW....as part of the North American Union Agreement. And you think we are all 'conspiracy theorists.'

We are because the US fought to gain control of their own country against the Royal family, and won. We Canadians on the other hand are quite happy the way we are.

the same reason every other country is... what an odd question. As a canadian, I am very glad not to belong to the states, for the most part we disapprove greatly of almost all us policy, and would never agree to be united in such a way.
edit - barbara l - wow, scary, never heard about that, thanks for the link!
