There is some evidence that things like licorice which contain glycyrric acid may contribute to earlier delivery and some preterm births. But for each study that proves it there is one that disproves it.
So the long and the short of it is that pineapple is good for you and if you want it, eat it. And once you are 38 weeks you don't have to worry about preterm birth.

I read about this before, so I did some research when I was pregnant. It all said that FRESH pineapple ripens the cervix, but canned or dehydrated lacks a certain enzyme.

I hate to say this, but we've had girls come on yahoo answers in the last weeks of pregnancy willing to try everything from jumping on stairs to eating pineapples to get that baby out. Ma'am, the baby will come when the baby wants to come. Sorry.

OMG No don't do it! You have to eat like a whole pineapple at a time to get the results from it.
I was stupid enough to do this. I ate 1/2 a pineapple before my tongue burned so bad from the bromelain in it. Then it gave me stomach cramps... ugh.
As if that wasn't bad enough I eneded up in hospital because my whole body started itching like MAD! Eating any citrus fruits (yes pineapple is concidered citrus in this case) while pregnant causes your body to produce excess bile. That much bile can not be processed and the excess bile salts can build up in your skin. Look up Cholestasis for more information.
My hands and feet and legs and body itched and itched and itched for a couple days after... and i'm STILL pregnant. Over due now by 4 days actually.

I think it's an old wives tale. I've never heard of such a thing. I do know that when your baby is ready to come it will come, they all do.

I tried pineapple yesterday, and I also tried sex. I'm not sure which one worked, but today at my appointment I was finally showing some cervical thinning. Could be coincidence.
