I am a VERY young 42, people think I am 28, and I have a flat tummy.
But I really wouldn't show it off, I don't wear short shirts anymore....so it would be pretty discreet.

NO! I know plenty of respectable and professional women of all ages who has a belly button ring. If you like it that all that matters, no one personal opinion(even your boyfriend) shouldn't matter. Besides, belly button piercing are very common, trendy, and cute now, it just depends on how your wear them. It is your body and your choice, not his. You are a grown woman, not a child.

I'm 40 and have put off getting a tattoo since I was 18. I guess I will never get one because so many have one, it's no longer cool to me. I don't think that belly button rings are trashy or whoreish but I do think that too many people are doing too many things just for an attention grabber.

I'm sure you're a cool person, just let you be you......

I think it depend on how it is "displayed" .... if you are always showing it off, and making a big deal about it, than that is a little trashy...but if it is in good taste, I don't see a problem w/ it... I am 33 and have had one for oh, probably like 10 years... when I was younger, and the short shirts were in style, then yes, I totally flaunted it...but now only my significant other gets to see it....

U've never heard that about belly button rings, just the tattoo on the small of the back. I'm a woman without a belly button ring though, and not a man.

No this is not true! Your boyfriend needs a wake up call.

However, maybe you should have discussed this with him before you went and got it done. I have a lot of respect for my significant other, so I ask him what he thinks before I get things done, because I want to remain attractive to him.

Obviously your bf doesn't like navel piercings. However, he shouldn't talk to you like that especially because they are not "trashy," and at your age you are mature enough to get this done. It's not like you're a 13 year old running around getting it done illegally.

Good luck.

you are an adult and you can do whatevr you want. he probably said that b/c hes feeling insecure. most women who do that plan to show it off right? so in a sense yes hes right, but it doesnt have to be like that. so hes insecure that u will be showing off your body and other men will look etc...why didn you tell him you were going to do it in the first place? I mean I would be interested to know if my man was gonna get something pierced or tattoed.

well i don't know if 42 is the right age to get a belly button ring, but if your stomach is flat and you're in shape, then why not? i think belly button rings are really cute (if you've got the right body for it). tell your boyfriend to take a hike!

That has to be the dumbest thing I have heard. Men don't view women that way. My husband says there is a time and place for it, which I agree. I highly doubt that your going to go to work with it exposed. If your going clubbing ok. I look at it this way, if your happy with it, it doesn't matter what your boyfriend or anyone else thinks of it.

Who cares what he thinks! or anyone else for that matter! Why did he wait until after you got it done to tell you that?! If that were true, then I guess I am a "trashy whore", too and so are TONS of other girls and women! I have had mine pierced since I turned 17; I am 25.

A 42 year old woman should know by now that people should not be judged by their appearance. And if your bf subscribes to such nonsensical stereotyping, I strongly suggest you find yourself a more mature and stable man!
