He changed his number to 24 because Jordan was 23. He's trying to say he's better than Jordan, but Jordan never had a Shaq. And if Jordan did have Shaq, he would have won about nine or ten rings, rather than six.

No. 24 is Kobe Bryant's favorite number, his number when he played at Lower Merion HS, PA. When he came to the NBA, the number 24 was not available, his second option was 8, his idol's favorite number (Mike D'Antoni), so he went to wear that number until the no. 24 became available. To Gilbert: No. If you would look at it, 23 is good, but 24 is better. Got it?

According to Kobe Bryant, he said that he chose that number because there is 24 hours in a day. He's going to take it day-by-day.

He's been in the league for 10 years, won a championship in his 5th year and had 4 rings after his first 7 seasons. He said it's all gone by so fast for him that he wanted to enjoy every moment. As someone stated earlier, he said there are 24 hours in a day, and he wanted fresh start and take advantage of the 2nd half of his career; to take advantage of every hour.

He was trying to be like Jordan and change his number and then he will probably go back to 8. Actually thats probably not it, but i dont like Kobe, so i'll go with doing it for the money and sales in jerseys.

Well he mentioned something about wanting a fresh start to the next part of his career as well, so he wanted a new number. But I also believe that he thinks he is a step above Michael Jordan.
