Around 12 pounds thru your entire preganancy should be normal. The baby weigh 9-10 lbs and any additional weight is just fat you'll have to lose.

I gained 50 and was way ahead of you by 24 weeks. By the end of the first trimester I was probaby up 15 pounds.
As long as you are eating good food and there is a steady gain- even if it's a few oz at a time, that's what your doctor wants to know. You are on track to probably gaining the textbook amount of weight for your entire pregnancy. That's good- and not that easy to do for everyone. I have heard of people gaining 60, 70, 80 lbs - it's not necessary.

Every woman is made up differently, different body builds and metabolism. Its hard to say exactly what your normal weight gain should be but most doctors typically tell their patients between 20-25 pounds. If you're 24 weeks and have already gained 12 pounds, then it sounds like you're progressing right on schedule. I didn't gain any weight with my pregnancy until I hit my 7th month them WHAM! there she was. I think its better to gain it gradually as the baby grows. Believe me, if the doctor thought there was a problem with your weight gain, you would definately had heard about it already. They watch that stuff very closely. But it sounds to me like you're exactly where you should be. Think of it this way, a typical healthy baby weighs on average between 6-8 pounds, depending. You're already at 12 pounds and still have 16 weeks to go. Figuring the baby is probably only about 3 pounds right now, you're fine. He has to also remember where the baby lays, he's probably expecting you to have this huge belly, but if the baby is laying flat or whatever, you won't show a whole lot untill he/she turns around and moves. My daughter laid flat the entire pregnancy til I hit the 7th month, then when she grew too big to lie flat, thats when she curled up and my tummy just appeared. Congrats!

Everyone is so different, please keep that in mind. Some Doctors will tell you to gain 20 lbs, when others will say anything under 60 is a normal gain.
I am 5 foot 8, 125 average weight
I gained 38 lbs with my 1st, but I was on bedrest my entire 3rd trimester and gained the most weight then.
I gained about 22 with the 2nd
I gained 33 with the 3rd, yet she was my smallest baby (and also came a month early)
If your Dr. isnt concerned and you are eating well, I wouldnt be worried.
congrats!

I only gained 16 lbs. my entire pregnancy. I was continually gaining a few pounds each visit, then it kind of plateaued, and that's when my doc mentioned it. As long as you gain something by each visit, I think they are happy. Everyone is different, so you can't compare yourself to others. I found however, that my experience was very much like my mom's when she was pregnant. So if you are able, that's a good place to find out how you are doing. The one thing my doc advised me to gain weight, was eating ice cream every night. Not a cheap brand where the first ingredient is sugar, but a better one that actually has milk and stuff in it moreso than just sugar.

i've always had trouble gaining weight but i'm extremely healthy. when i went for my 3 months appt i told my doc i was worried about not gaining any weight. she said one, most women lose weight in the first 3 months so not to worry, and two, even a gain of 15 -20 pounds is acceptable for someone my size (very small!). i think docs just can't tell women that because there will always be some who will try not to gain weight even if their bodies need it. in my case i haven't gained a pound and i'm 4 months but there's no problem at all. if there is your doc will let you know in plenty of time to change your diet.

i am 20 weeks and 4 days and i have lost 10 lbs as of two weeks ago, probably more by now. With my second I lost 40 lbs and never gained a thing, with a perfectly healthy baby at the end.
Just for the record i am not trying to lose weight, i just happen to only crave healthier choices when pregnant and as a result lose weight, my doctor is not and was not concerned

My doctor told me not to worry about the numbers, he would do that for me. If he felt I needed to gain more or if I was gaining too much he would let me know. I liked it that way. I think I ended up gaining around 25-30 pounds in the end, and 10-15 pounds of that was in the last 1-2 months. I also was retaining water and had excess amniotic fluid. Just eat healthy and talk to your doctor about your concerns. He/she will be happy to discuss what is right for you. Remember each person is different.

Just eat normally and healthy and you will be fine!!!
Here are the recommended weight gain guidelines for pregnant women:
If you are normal weight before pregnancy:
Gain 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy.
If you are overweight before pregnancy:
Gain 15 to 25 pounds during pregnancy.
If you are underweight before pregnancy:
Gain 28 to 40 pounds during pregnancy (depending on your pre-pregnancy weight).
If you have a multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets or more): See your health care provider. You will need to gain more weight during pregnancy depending on the number of babies you are carrying.
I am 5'4" and I weighed 127 at the beginning of each of my pregnancies. I only gained about 25 pounds with both. I ate normally and didn't throw up very uch at all. I got a big red check mark on my chart for insufficient weight gain. LOL
All you can do is eat healthy and eat when you are hungry. Your doctor will let you know if he is concerned. Tell your hubby to relax!
