Not sure what could be causing it. If none of the other suggestions work, you may be able to get it fixed under warranty, depending on when you got it. Microsoft recently extended the warranty to 1 year from the date of purchase.
Here's the email I got from Microsoft on Dec. 30:
Xbox 360™ Warranty Announcement
Effective December 22, 2006, the Xbox 360 console warranty has been extended to one year from the date of purchase. The extended warranty applies to new customers and existing Xbox 360 owners.
If you experience hardware issues with your Xbox 360 console within one year of purchase, your console will be repaired at no cost*. For those who already paid for repairs within their first year of ownership you can expect reimbursement checks for the amount of the console hardware repair in approximately 10 weeks. These will be automatically distributed. You do not need to contact Microsoft®.

I was at my cousins house when the Xbox wouldn't open. In a state of panic, I recommended calling xbox support. So we did. We had to remove the faceplate (it just pops off) and there is this little hole that your suppose to put a thin wire like a paper clip into which pops the tray out a little manually. We had to pry it the rest of the way but by laying the xbox on its side and leaving a disk in when not playing it now opens. Hope it gets fixed but make sure you call xbox support to double check this process because this was a couple of months ago so I'm not 100% sure!

If you have a warantee, they can probably take a look at it; you can also go back to the store you bought it from with your receipt and it might be small enough a problem that they can just fix it for you there. You can also call microsoft as they have toll free customer service numbers as far as I remember, and maybe they can help you resolve it over the phone.
Try to pull it out gently, to see if it just got a little stuck. If you can't pull it out, then leave it until you can get some help. Good luck.

close it then push the open button but instead of letting it open hold it close (could be off track) but microsoft might fix it for free if it is on the list of problems they have give them a call. I restently had to send mine back b/c the whole system when to hell and they just sent me a microsoft card to get a new 360. They know there are problems they are tryin to fix them and keep costomer loyal to them they will help you the best they can.
