You can have a shower stall without a bath tub. It gives you more space in the room.
I take only showers unless I'm somewhere that only has a bath tub. So having a shower stall but no bath tub wouldn't bother me.
Assuming you own the house, if you want to sell the house, be aware that some people will be put off buying the house if you don't have a bath tub.

You can do that, but why?
When you list your house, instead of a "full bath", now you have to list "3/4 bath" and the value of your home will drop.
I have a bathroom with a shower stall (3/4 bath of 3 total bathroom), and I would love to put in a bath/shower unit instead (I will before I sell, BTW -- remodel when I get the money to do it).
I don't think it is against any codes to do what you want, but you'll probably have to take out re-modelling permits, etc.

Building codes do not require a home to have a bath tub that I am aware of. The only drawback would be the value of your home when you go to sell it, no bath tub is a big minus.

No, you do not. I have lived in several dwellings in San Diego County and Ventura County that did NOT have anything more than a shower stall. I cannot imagine that there is any regulation anyplace that would state such a thing.
Just to be safe, I would recommend contacting a contractor and asking this question...over the phone would be fine, I'm sure.

I think it depends upon where you live. I live in SC and building codes still require at least 1 bath tub in a dwelling. I imagine there are exceptions, i.e., handicap, etc....Check with your county folks to get the final answer. Your state surely has produced a handbook that has the various codes included.

Supposedly....maybe looking on your county website will help. Just in case ( if you decide to install a shower), you should keep your bath tub. If you live in an apartment, bad move. Also,,,as nieghbors. Good luck!

Yes, you can have a bathroom without a shower but............
The reason people have bathrooms with a bathtub is because when you are buying or selling a house, the one with a bathtub is considered a "full" bathroom. The one with a shower is considered a "3/4" bathroom. It has nothing really to do with codes. Ask yourself if this matters to you and if it doesn't, than by all means, make it an incredible shower...........

i have never heard that you have to have a tub.
we have 2 baths, 1 with a tub and 1 without.
but our condo has a tub in both bathrooms. call the local building inspection office and they should be able to tell you.
