Did they used to like her more earlier? She came under some flack for not liking hip-hop music so much. They now accuse her of catering to the 'middle-class white woman'. Do most black people really think this is true?

Not trying to inflame or start a race issue.. just pretty curious about this since reading about it in the news etc..

I'm black and I really don't care one way or the other about Oprah. Also, I don't like hip hop or rap and not all black people do so her disliking it doesn't affect everyone.

I think it's a misunderstanding. Black people like Oprah just as much as whites. The person who accused her of "favoring" white people was rapper "50 Cents" and he made those false accusations because she wouldn't invite him onto her talk show. In fact, Oprah has been helping black people all these years: even buying houses for the poor... not only for those who wrote in for their poor friends but also for the Hurrican Katrina victims (she personally bought up 200 Katrina houses for them which is equivalent to $10 million). She has personally contributed more than $300 million to the poor, and has recently set up an Academy for girls in South Africa because she believes that education for girls in South Africa is very important, and they don't get the chance to further their studies because they live such impoverished lives (7 members sharing a single room). But the Academy will make future leaders out of these girls, and they in return, will lead their country to prosperity and wealth. It's all good =)

As a black woman working in media, I have a lot of respect for her. Do I worship her like one of the answers here.... HELL NO. I don't know 1 black person that "worships" Oprah.

Whether she caters to "middle class white woman", I really don't know. She caters to the people who support the sponsors who are paying for her show. The housewives who are buying up everything that they see on the commercials during her show. Are they middle class white women?? ?Could be.

Oprah's okay, I watch her sometimes I am not crazy about her but I don't dislike her... but I do think she caters more to the "rich women" but most of the time there are only white women on the show and then there are alot of things she talks about that just don't apply to me .. like she will have a show on bargain shopping they will show the expensive items for like 800 dollars and then the bargain will be like 350... I don't have 350 to spend on a sweater lol

I hate Oprah

"catering to the middle-class white woman", I never thought about it that way, but I can agree with that statement

I don't think any black person can speak for "most black people". I personally find Oprah as boring as any other talk show host. She's a very intelligent woman, though.

I personally dislike her tremendously - not because of her color but her power to pimp out corporate products right in your living room. She is a nasty business who should be shut down.
