What is faster. A 1986 Pontiac Trans Am the 305 TPI and an auto tranny, or a 1987 Chevy Camaro Iroc-Z with a 305 and a a 5 speed tranny.

The 86 Trans Am would have 190 horsepower. The 87 IROC Camaro would have 215 horsepower, I believe. You can find out all kinds of technical data at Third Gen.org. I will provide the hyperlink below, for you.

I love Firebirds and Camaros, by the way- especially the Third Gens (that is, cars made from 1982-1992). : )

The IROC-Z will smoke the firechicken because in 87 they had a roller cam and center bolt heads.

the iroc-z would beat the trans am but it wouldn't be over 8 car lengths plus it depends if they are built or not but stock the iroc-z all the way

would depend on who shifts better, and rear gearing, the horse power difference listed above is close enough it will depend on other variables including vehicle weight and options, and drag, too.

it all depends on the driver and not falling asleep on the clutch, cause either way they both just about the same

I would say they are the same... both do about 55mph with that lousy 305......
