I am a first time mom, due in June, and I am just starting to get the nusery ready. We bought a crib so far but that is it. Any information would be great!

Crib
Dresser
Changing table (our dresser doubles as changing table, we don't have an official changing pad, we use a blanket with shelf liner under it to keep from slipping)--personally I always use the changing table, the only time I've used a bed or floor is away from home and I always thought it was awkward and had to bend over too far.
Rocking chair
1 package of newborn diapers
wipes (our favorite is Kirkland {Costco} brand)
diaper rash ointment (we like A&D)
baby lotion
nail clippers
hamper
Diaper Genie (or equivalent), really only effective until baby starts solids
toy box for toys that stay in the room
mini hamper for toys to carry from room to room
mobile (splurge and get the one that comes with a remote)
baby monitor
bouncer
swing
tummy time mat
onesies
burp clothes
sleepers
outfits
at least two sheets and waterproof pads for crib
baby bathtub
baby wash
washclothes
hooded towels

That's a pretty comprehensive list.

NEED? Or you need to make you feel like you're a good parent? It's different you know.

I had the whole shebang for my first and second children but when the third came along 10 years later and all my nursery stuff was gone, I just used a "pack and play" for his crib (the kind with the basinette for when they are a baby) until he was 2 and then moved him straight into a toddler bed. It was GREAT because if I ever had him sleep over at grandma's (like New Year's Eve) I just packed it up and he was sleeping in what he was used to over there.

Otherwise, a diaper pail is very handy. As far as a changing table, I just changed my boy on the floor with the changing pad that came with his diaper bag. I'm so glad I did because I don't have to worry about what to do with a changing table now!

A lot of the stuff you will feel compelled to buy might just be convenience, but if you have the money, I say go for it! :) Otherwise you don't NEED a lot of it, really.

thing with a changing table is when you are changing there are always times when the baby decides "whew that was cold" and there it starts to flow. they will pee and poop all over so the table will keep it off your bedding and mattresses. a nice soothing mobile for the crib. if you get a changing table make sure it has a shelf for diapers, wipes, powder and 2 or 3 small drawers. that way you don't have to get a dresser. definitely get a rocking chair. get a dim lamp for night time feeding so you don't have to turn on the main light. this might help to get the baby back to sleep after feeding and not wake them up more with a brighter overhead light. get a throw rug, or a blanket will work if you have carpeting, so you can lay the baby on the floor with you.

A changing table was the biggest waste of money for us. You will end up using your bed to change diapers cause it's easier and more convenient. A rocking chair is nice. Lots of storage space for clothes. A mobile for the crib is nice too. Diaper Genies are a waste too. The bags get expensive and it's easier to just toss em in a pail and empty out the pail on a regular basis. Good luck to you.

*lol* That's about it, and maybe not even that if you cosleep (which I do but the crib is nice sometimes and sometimes my baby prefers the crib). Really you can change them in the crib on a pad, it is soft and prevents them from being able to fall off a change table.

Oh and you need a dresser to put clothes and diapers in.

A chair for you? A light by the chair? Mobile?

Take it easy, buy a little at a time. If you plan on having a baby shower, don't buy too much until after the shower. I went overboard with my baby registry. You really don't need everything they sell..... Babies R Us has a list of essentials, but I'd say you really only need about half of what's on the list.......
Favorites:
Pee-Pee Pads are great!!!
Cloth diapers- great burp rags, spit up rags, and when your baby grows up you can use them for dusting rags and to remove your eye makeup!
Loved the bassinet! I put it in right next to my bed, and wheeled it in the living room during the day!
Baby gowns! For boys and girls~ makes late night changings so much easier!
Socks, Socks, Socks!!! I always lost one of each pair!!! (the dryer ate them, I swear!!!)
Bottle Brushes- My kids are big now, but I still find many uses for them!!! Like to clean the tubes on my fish tank and to clean flower vases!
Wastes:
The biggest waste of money for me was the changing table. I used it like 8 times total on two babies.
Not sure what the baby oil was ever for!!!
Didn't use the bottle warmer
Only used the diaper genie for a couple of months (the diapers get too big and stinky!!!)
Too many newborn clothes! They only wear them a few months!
Never used the playpen either~ it became toy storage!
Congratulations~~~~ :)

If your going to have a bassinet for the first few months, don't forget bassinet sheets!

If you are limited on space, like I am, besides the crib, the only other piece of furniture for the nursery I have is an armoire, good for hanging clothes + it has storage drawers, you don't need a changing table, unless you get 1 for your baby shower and you have extra space I guess....I find it unnecessary. A play pin is good for your room-living/family room. other than that everything else are just bonuses....good luck!

Crib, dresser, changing table, diaper pail, crib sheets and the little matress pads that go under them, baby wipe warmer, rocking chair or glider, a breast feeding pillow (I liked the My Brest Friend), something to put your feet up on if you have room, a CD player and soothing sounds CDs, night light, mobile, tons of diapers and wipes, desitin, baby lotion (I love Aveeno), baby wash cloths and towels, recieving blankets, sleep sacks (totally mandatory in my book!), burp cloths, and of course all the babies clothes, socks, and hats to keep his little head warm.

Congratulations!

When I did my daughters nursery we had a crib, changing table, diaper pail and a rocking chair. Nothing too extreme just the stuff we really needed.
