We don't. We're awful, we're "snobs", or "satanic infidels" or whatever. The US stinks, has nothing, it's rotten. So everyone stay out go home and quit trying to come here, it's not worth it.
Something tells me they're still going to keep trying to get in. I always wonder why if we are so awful [according to just about everyone else on the planet] why so many from elsewhere on the planet want in?

I recognize that that is how we come across, but we don't believe that. We think our country is the best, and things are really different in America. There is so much space that we have bigger personal spaces that people in other countries. We aren't as comfortable being physically close to other people and it comes across as us believing that we own the space. We have just a few people who are truly starving and truly homeless and they can go to places to get help. It is hard for us to understand that there can be places and people who can't just go down the street and get some food. Our country is really big, it is hard for us to fathom (even though we understand it intellectually) that the entire continent of Europe is the same size as America and they are actually different countries, we have states that are bigger than that and the states are all America. It is really hard to see France and Germany as really that different when Ohio and Michigan aren't. That extends to Africa, Asia, and South America. We see on the news that some people are starving and some people are living in the same way they have been for centuries and it says on the new Africa, not a distinct country. Even when a country is listed, aren't they close to each other, how can things be that different when the places are so close to each other. Why don't they just share? Why don't the people just move? I know that there are cities in other countries I know that a lot of people live in places that are very much like America, but it is hard to imagine and picture it as the same. Europe is so small, Africa is so rural, and it is as hard for us to understand what life is like everywhere else, as it is for people from other countries to understand what life is like for us.

Unfortunately, it is not just one American on the Internet. There is a strain of 'we are better than anyone else' in American culture. It is displayed either by ignoring the rest of the world, the media approach, or making fun of everyone else.
Recently I was at Epcot, the World Showcase. As we were walking around the lagoon, an American behind us said, 'Isn't it great, all these other countries so close together so we can make fun of them all at once.' No doubt, he is one of those who complains that the rest of the world doesn't like Americans. This from the country whose offering in the wonderful cuisine there is hot dogs and hamburgers.

Pretentiousness and arrogance have been hammered into us from the womb. Americans think they know everything, but really are very ignorant on a world basis. They have no idea what is going on in the world. They watch CNN but CNN would have Joseph Goebbels salivating with the propaganda they spew.

In general I don't think they do, I believe there is a perception out there however because of the current administration & it's policies. Americans are good people who give more in forgein aid than any other country. Don't mistake patriotism for arrogance. We all believe our nation is great, that's why we are the "United" States of America.

Not all Americans think that, but I honestly don't know. I'm an American and I find it annoying that a lot of Americans do have a high and mighty attitude about certain things.

You met one person "on the internet" and you think she speaks for "all" Americans? You need to get a grip.
