Caimans are, sadly, an introduced species to Florida, and are doing quite well in the Everglades. They compete for food, territory, basking sites, etc. Not that a spectacled caiman could stand up to a full grown alligator, but I know that caiman attitude, and they can definitely kill a gator that's smaller than they are, and give one their own size a good fight.

I would hope it doesn't. The caiman isn't native to the Everglades.
If it does compete, it's because it eats the same kinds of foods as an alligator.
