i was driving yesterday and all of the suden the transmission on my jeep grand cherokee turned on..the as i was passing trough a stop sign the car just completely shut down...even though i was able to turn it back on and get going...then the next morning i go and turn the car on but the transmission light wasnt on anymore...

Your transmission light came on due to a sensor detecting a fault. That fault was deemed serious enough by the management computer to cause a shutdown. Start by making sure the transmission fluid is at the correct level... if it is, go ahead and take the Jeep to a dealership where they can run the codes. Make sure to mention as much detail to them as you can.

Here is the age old answer; take the car to a parts dealer(autozone) they will hook up an OBDII analyzer for free, real easy to use. If that pops out a transmission code take that to the sealer. If no code found then it may be a loose connection that stalled the engine.

It means it's time to drive to the mechanic and have it checked before it fails completely and you tow it to the mechanic to have it checked.
