Well first of all in a completely righteous World Truth and Patriotism go hand in hand. But in my honest opinion in America this isn't the case. But Truth and Patriotism equality is the desire that lies at the heart of all Americans. We can simply look through history to present to see that Patriotism has always been a top priority over Truth. Americans formulated the Declaration of Independence during the long period of Slavery. Americans imprisoned protesters against the Vietnam War and segregation while fighting for freedom, equality and peace. In 2001 Americans sought to avenge the Deaths of Americans during 9/11, and "justice" so far has claimed the Death of Saddam Hussein. (We engaged in war in Iraq under the belief that Saddam Hussein's army was harboring weapons of mass destruction, yet although we found none to date, we still are at war.) Most Americans are against the war in Iraq, but support the valor of our troops. Most Americans love the concept of freedoms we have being Americans, but don't trust the American leaders who dictate our rights.

theoretically: truth and patriotism go hand in hand. to be a good patriot one must not accept the government's statements are all the complete truth.
realistically: patriotism, and flag waving blind loyalty has become more important for many Americans.

And your question cuts right to the heart of the problem in America.
Patriotism in America has come to mean buying into all the propaganda and rhetoric. "My country, right or wrong", "Love it or leave it", "God supports our President", "Freedom comes with a price", "The greatest nation on Earth", "The right to bear arms", "Defending the American way"... and on and on... such a crock of horse manure.
Should we be proud of the country we live in? Of course. But that goes hand in hand with making our country a place to be 'proud of'! And if we don't do that, then pride is an unrealistic and inappropriate response.
Patriotism has to be founded on the supposition that a country is growing, changing, maturing.. becoming what it has the potential to be. Patriotism is invalid if it's based in the idea that a nation is fully formed and must remain in that form for perpetuity.
The U.S.A. needs to grow as a culture and as a society. It needs to throw out the propaganda and replace it with an acknowledment of the realities as they exist. It needs to answer the bell and become what it's capable of being.

right now.. about 70% of Americans believe in Patriotism threw the Truth... and about 25% believe in blind patriotism.. then there are the 5% that actually look at the facts and believe Bush is doing a good job... they fall under the same category as the 70%.. they just have a different view of it.

Those are number 872 and 873 on the list of American priorities.
Look at the Top Jerry Springer re-runs is now America's favorite. But as soon as the American Idol gets past the selection phase it will move to the top.

I agree with 1967. The truth should be patriotic. If your President and current leaders are corrupt then you should raise some helll and get them out of office.

I would say patriotism, because whenever someone questions the President-EVEN WHEN HE IS WRONG--the old argument comes right out--if you don't like it here, move to another country, etc...as if disagreeing makes you less of an American.

Why are these values on poles? Of course, you mean YOUR truth. And you cannot accept that some people reject your truth as unpatriotic.
My truth is that our nation is at war. I support my nation by supporting the President and the troops. It is you that has decided this means I live without knowledge of the truth.
I can live with that.
