To be a sucessful DJ, you have to have a huge variety of music (from the late 50s, on up to the 90s), because you aren't JUST going to play at hip-hop parties.

You'lll also need PA speakers (and stand-posts), that have at least 12" woofers, and horn mid-range speakers, rated to about 500 Watts. You might not crank them up for every party, but you have the capability if its needed.

You have to really know your music, too. At a wedding reception, someone is going to come up and request "moon river", and you'll have to know if you have it, or not; which CD it is on; and maybe you have 2 or 3 versions of it -- you have to ask them which version.

Party DJs usually don't do alot of talking. The MC of a reception needs to have a microphone on your PA system, though, so a wireless mike would be good.
