if you don't NEED wireless then stick to hard wired it is slightly faster and a lot more safer and secure

If the computer is anywhere near the router, always use wired.

1, Its reliable - data rate will be consistant and probably faster than a wireless connection.

2, Its much simpler to set up. Just look at the number of question that appear on Yahoo answers about wireless networking.

3, no extra security wories.

4, you don't need to go to special measures to stop other people using your network without your knowlege or permission - if they can't get to a socket or a pc on a wired network, they can't break in (other than through the internet).

5, Its cheaper.

6, its not easily subject to radio interference.

Don't be conned by the stated data rates for wireless, they will auto negotiate down to a reliable connection which will be much less that the 54M stated. Other radio interference will affect this.

Your wired connection is probably running at 100Mb (max), even here the actual data rate will depend upon the number of data collisions, so the more compters on a network, the slower the traffic.

Unless you need the portability of wireless, save your money.

Speed in this case is only relevant if you are transferring between computers on your router, not the Internet via your broadband service. Depending on the service in your area, you likely have a speed (download) from ~ 300 Kbps (DSL - cheaper) to 30 Mbps (fiber - cost a lot more). A typical wired router will support 100 Mbps (unless you have an older model that could be around 10 Mbps) for ethernet (wired) connections and 54 Mbps for wireless connections. As you can see, using wired (100) or ethernet (54) will be faster than your connection to your broadband provider (0.3 - 15). Unless you have a requirement for mobility or you can't easily run the wiring (ethernet), stick with a wired connection.

Wireless and wired connection are not even similar on how they work and operate. They are two completly different technologies. Wired connection is more secured than wireless. Wireless is easy to intersept by passing close to your house with propper equipment, while wired connection you'll need to physically tap into the wire in order to interset traffic or be connected to same ISP or network that you are on in order to snift packets. Second, Wireless connection is slower (you probably won't notice the difference in speed since most applications you use would not need more than 54Mbps which is the standard for wireless a/b/g , N will have a higher throughput) than wired connection and usually, less reliable.

I hope it helps.

wired is almost always easier to st up and even cheaper. I prefer wired only because I live in a dorm and I don't like others trying to bum off my connection. Wired is more secure because only the computers connected to it can use it. I know you can lock the wireless routers but some make it "rocket surgery" to manage accounts for it. Unless you have a large area with multiple computers and don't want to buy wires, then get the wireless router. Speed of the wireless is determined partly by distance from the router to the computer and other things blocking the signal like walls, floors, doors and such. Some wirelss routers have a weak signal to begin with but have an option to give a it a range booster antenna. I would almost always suggest you use a wired router.

Basically speaking wireless and wired connection are all most the same thing, the only difference is wireless is the modern technology.
For reliability i would suggest wired connection because it is good for average users, meaning it easy to set-up and manage.Wireless reliability is also very good but it requires loads of configuration that can drive an average user crazy

you wouldn't benefit from a wireless connection unless you need to connect more devices on your network...that aren't able to connect so easily too the router..wireless is most beneficial for connecting multiple devices in a certain area without any type of wiring the speeds vary btw, personally wireless in my experience is slower or just as fast as wired but never faster!

I use a wireless for my laptop .You can use it in any room or out side in the summer. And the speed is the same as your fast broardband .I enjoy the freedom of using it with out wires?

I use wireless but it is a little bit slower that wired. Wireless is apparently less secure - touch wood, I haven't had any problems.

Wireless is slower but you won't really notice it until you start using high data rate applications- online gaming for example.
