You can always just have it disconnected, however, if PC usage with your children is an issue I strongly suggest getting a software package specifically designed to help you control their time spent on it, the sites they visit as well as protect them from online predators :

Netnanny

You can download a free trial to see how it works for you.

Using a firewall such as the free ZoneAlarms firewall, you can add the browser (internet explorer or firefox) whatever you might be using to the blocked programs list and that should do it for you. Make sure to block the firewall with a password and when you want to use it, all you have to do is try to open it and enter your password and you'll be good to go.

Disabling the network connection does not gurantee they would not get online, they can easily figure thatone out and re-enable it.

Good luck.

For Internet Explorer - Go to Tools > Options > Connections > LAN Settings. Click the check box for Use a proxy server... In the address box type 0.0.0.0 Be sure the port is set for 80.

Rather than disabling the Internet, maybe it is time to enable your parenting skills and lay down the internet usage laws of the house.

Pretty much, if your kids are older than 6, they'll figure out a way to undo anything you do.

I'd suggest putting your DSL/cable modem (if you have) into a locked box. You keep the key. Only open the box and plug-in the computer when YOU want to use it.
