I love Plovdiv and think it is one of the nicest cities in BG. It is the second biggest city in the country, but ranks fourth in terms of cost of living after Sofia, Burgas and Varna. The must sees are the city centre, the Old town, the Roman amphitheatre (which is still used - I recommend you go to a performance there). I suggest you climb one of the city hills - the one close to the Old town, where the remains of an ancient fortress are still seen, and where young couples meet.
Shopping is also great. I would check out for elegant Bulgarian made clothes (good quality and good price). Lots of places to eat, cafes, clubs, etc.
What you should be aware of - nothing special really, just the usual things, when you are a foreigner in a big city - like pickpockets. Mind that the taxi tariffs are displayed at the windscreen and check them before you take a taxi. The taxi driver should give you a receipt if you ask for it.
Tipping is not a percentage of the bill - just round it up - for instance, if its 5.52 BGL, its OK to give 6.00 BGL and make a gesture, meaning "keep the change".
All the best!
PS. The gypsies are not the natives of Bulgaria. The natives are Thracians, Slavs and Proto-Bulgarians who mixed to form the modern Bulgarian ethnicity.

i personally have not visited the country, but I am doing a project on Bulgaria. From my research, Plovdiv is a main industrial town, similar to that of Sofia(capital of Bulgaria). From the answer above, yes there are muggins, pick pocketing and there are gypsies. But muggins and pickpocketing are rare and the gypsies are called ROMAS....which are actually the natives of Bulgaria...they live in shacks.
I personally wouldn't visit Plovdiv....but I would visit
VARNA
BOURGAS
STARA ZAGORA
PIRIN MOUNTAINS
RILA MONASTRY-big ski resort in the mountains
SUNNY BEACH
GOLDEN SANDS

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure where this is but if it is a city, i have heard a lot of mixed feedback!!

I heard that everything is very cheap and the shopping is great, however there is a lot of crime, persistent prostitutes, muggers, gypsies etc.

An ex-boyfriend of mine was from Sofia though, and from what i saw it seemed a fabulous place!!

Hope that helps and good luck!!

there are a number of of flaws the following on your premises. a million) Amino acids, the progression blocks of DNA, have in reality been made from non-living count number. 2) We does no longer assume to make certain a completely-functioning living organism come rapidly out of non-organic and organic count number in a unmarried step. all of us understand that nature would not paintings like that. The amino acids would grow to be DNA, out of which some will be self-replicating, out of which some would have proteins, etc. each and each and every of how as a lot as a unmarried-celled organism. there's a continuum of stages in between, and to ask the position existence starts begs the question of what you outline a living organism to be. that is not any longer an actual line to attraction to. as an get mutually, viruses have DNA and are self-replicating yet are not any further seen "organisms". 3) the shortcoming of direct statement of a few thing does no longer advise that that is all taken on "faith". from time to time expertise would properly be oblique. you are able to INFER issues in accordance to different observations. that is not any longer "faith". 4) you do not ought to settle for a premise first of all, no matter if that is through statement, inference, OR faith. i have not seen unicorns, yet that would not advise I even ought to settle for his or her existence on faith. i can reject the completed idea all mutually. 5) A position of religion nonetheless isn't unavoidably "a non secular position". you want more beneficial than mere faith to label some thing a "non secular" position. in the different case, your argument means that each and everything that is circuitously referred to is a non secular position, and once you're going to call my popularity of the planet Neptune a "non secular" position, then time period loses all sensible which means.

Don't start any trouble over there. The policing and judicial system is corrupt as hell. Ask around.
