He had to do that multiple (past, present, future) time-travel thing to repair that space-time-rift, to save the WHOLE GALAXY.
(sorry, can't remember the episode name, so take away my trekkie license -- see if I care).
None of the other Enterprise captains had to save the whole galaxy.
