It's pretty simple. No matter what you buy (CD RW; CD/DVD +/-; CD/DVD dual layer; etc.) the install process is the same.
I'm assuming your Acer is a tower/minitower and not a laptop.
SHUT DOWN THE PC !!!
1. Read the literature that comes with the drive you buy. Sometimes they recommend you install the drivers/software that comes with the drive before you install the drive itself.
2. Open the Pc's case. You may need to take both sides off your PC if the sides are both removable. Your current DVD/ROM drive is probably mounted in the top most 5 3/4" drive bay. I would leave it like that.
3. Now you have to set the jumpers on the two drives so that the PC will recognize them properly. For the moment, leave the DVD ROM drive alone. On the new CD RW drive, look on the back and you will see a pattern of either 6 or 8 pins and there will be a code on the drive (either embossed in the plastic, or a label on the drive) that will define the positions for the jumper. The choices are normally, "Master"; "Slave"; "Cable Select". In this case this drive will be mounted beneath the DVD ROM drive so you want to put the jumper either in the "Cable Select" or the "Slave" position. The jumper should be oriented vertically on the two pins, and not across two pins horizontally.
4. Slide the drive into the drive bay from the front of the PC so that it is flush/even with the front case. Install 2 screws into each of the sides of the drive to secure it firmly into place.
5. The gray ribbon cable that goes to your old DVD ROM will have a connector available about 6 inches back from the connector that goes into DVD ROM drive. Plug that connector onto the connector pins on the back of the drive. Don't put a twist in the ribbon cable. The red line on the side of the cable should be oriented the same as it is on the upper DVD drive.
6. Insert one of the "power" connectors available from the power supply into the new drive.
That's pretty much all there is to it.
Boot up the PC. Your new drive should be recognized and you should be all set to use it.
If you have any issues with the PC recognizing the two drives you should check the jumpers first.
Shut down the PC.
Remove both of the drives from the PC. My personal preference is to assign a "Master" and a "Slave" drive but you can also set both jumpers as "Cable Select". If you choose master/slave then the top drive should be set as "Master" and it will receive the connector on the end of the gray ribbon cable. The second drive should be set as "Slave" and it will receive the connector that is about 6 inches back on the gray ribbon cable. Install "power" connectors on both drives and reboot the PC.
If the PC recognizes both drives you're all set. Put the side panels back on the PC for proper air flow to cool your CPU.
Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

If you want to have both the DVD and CD-RW you'll probably need to check the IDE Master/Slave configuration of the existing drive and make the new drive the opposite (some drives can auto-detect). Attaching is usually quite simple, a couple of screws, an internal power cable and the IDE ribbon. In most machines, it should already be roughly in the right place. Open your computer case, it should be pretty obvious.

Hi. Make sure you have an empty slot (you probably do), then install the drive into that slot, connect two cables, one for data and one for power. Install the drivers from the CD that comes with the drive, and off you go. You will need some type of software to burn music or data, but that should also be on the CD.

Just make sure the jumper on the back of the burner is in the same space as the one you took out

the best way would be to replace it with a dvd burner that can handle all formats of dvd and cd burning ... you should google the model and make of ur current player to ascertain its capabilities first ...
