I need a short contemporary monologue for my up coming auditon. I'm auditioning for the role of a shy and introverted girl- mid twenties, who's weary of men due to a violent encounter.
Does anyone know of any good websites that I could get a monologue from or some plays that i could look at to get monologues?!!!
Thanks

There are some lovely monologues from the play "......And a Nightingale Sang", Helen shares similar characteristics and it's not done very much so it won't be overdone. "The Glass Menagerie" Laura, "The Conduct of Life" monologues done by the child who is held prisoner and raped (there's only child but I can't remember her name) the child is cast as an adult due to the subject matter, it's a one act play, not done often.......Hope this helps. Don't get thrown off by the word contemporary. All that means is that it's modern. So for instance, Shakespeare would not be considered contemporary, but Neil Simon would. When it comes to finding monologues, there are tons of sites to help you (just see what you can find on google). You can also go to the library or your local book store. There are books filled with monologues, for all ages, and in all styles. But my best advice is to go back and think about plays you've been in and see if you can pull a something from them. This way you have the advantage of already knowing the show/script. Also, you can spend less time memorizing and more time on your character. I realize this is kind of long, but I hope it's helpful.

Set: On a bench.
In the middle of a playground right in front of a merry-go-round.
A Husband and a Wife sitting calmly. Having some rough times the Wife, scared that her husband wants to divorce she.
She calmly explains the situation.

Drama.
This monologue is great for auditions...and it's quite easy to cry during it.
I wrote it : )

PLAYING SCARED

Your probably wondering why i brought you here...
The other day i was walking by this playground and something caught my eye . Something close to the feeling thats been bothering me for some time now...
(pause)
You see those kids on the merry-go-round
(she points to the ride in front of them...full of kids)
After running with it to full speed they jump on, grasp the bars and hold on for dear life.
Screaming...while gravity tries to pull them apart.
(smiling)
They laugh and smile...
But along with those smiles comes the thought that enters every kids mind atleast once
Even for just a moment.
Where they realize that they really could fall off , so some choose to fill up with fear.
Others choose to push the thought out and have fun
(she motions the space between them)
This is that ride.
We are those kids.
(starts to get emotional)
I could be the loving you and smiling forever...totally unaware.
But something tells me
(crying)
That your more than ready to fall off.
.....(starts to regain composure)
If im still on that ride...
(confidently and louder)
Who will catch you when you fall?

It's not oscar winning but it's good
