In my opinion, there are only three universities in Minnesota that are worth going to: Carleton College, University of Minnesota at Twin Cities and Macalaster College. There are a couple of others that aren't too bad (e.g., St Thomas, St Olaf) -- but these three are world class. I'd avoid any public universities in Minnesota other than the University of MN.

Carleton is definitely in the Southern part of Minnesota. The other two are in the Twin Cities -- which I consider to be Southern Minnesota -- but some people might call Central Minnesota.

As for private schools there is Carlton and St. Olaf in Northfield. Carlton is a bit overpriced and stuffy and St. Olaf is a little bit more laid back and the town is kinda cute. Gustavus Adolphus is in St. Peter. I go to Gustavus and I think its a pretty good school. St. Peter is a little boring, but the professors are nice and they have pretty strong science and music programs.

As for public schools, there is MSU in Mankato which is not the best of schools in the world and I think that Winona is a state school... although I don't know for sure.

This is by no means a complete list and if I were you, I wouldn't limit myself to schools in southern MN. College is your time to branch out a little.

There are some college students in Dallas who wear pj's to class too, but most take pride in their appearance and wear jeans, sweats or shorts depending on the weather, rather than going along with an immature trend. Those who dress well daily usually go from class to a job so they have to look professional.
