Check out the Artists (past and present) in the Yahoo! Directory. http://dir.yahoo.com/Arts/Artists/

There you can choose what medium they used (cartoon, fine arts, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, young artists, etc.)

Good luck on your report.

Also, once you find the artist you're interested in, go to http://www.wikipedia.org to learn more about them and stop by your local library to see if they have any books on the artist or their art form.

Learn more about the art form and see if they made any specific advancements in the medium. Good luck!

Try hellosanantonio.com and if you find a particular artist's bio interesting, contact the artist. E-mail them your questions. You may may want to let the artist know if you are working on a high school or college report and the extent to which your report will be used (school newspaper, hometown paper, etc.) and as a courtesy send them a copy.

The Impressionist period is often most interesting to people. Some impressionists were VanGogh, Manet and Monet. Seurat had an entire play written about him called, "Sunday in the Park with George."

If you want to do artists from different periods, you can't go wrong with DaVinci, VanGogh and Picasso.
