We can double the education budget in one year by legalizing pot.
We currently spend $12.8 Billion on Education as projected for 2008. We spend $1.6 billion nationally (who knows state by state) on the war on drugs, and $4.92 billion on prisons. By legalizing it let me lay down some math for you. We could double the budget for education in 1 year. Conservatively say 10% of the population spends $50 a week (probably more like $150). That generates 1.35 Billion a week for agriculture as a gross, if we taxed it 25%, that would mean we could ad $337,500,000 (that’s 337Million) a week into education, calculating to an initial first year budget increase of $17.7 Billion.
Double the current budget of $12.8 Billion for 2007, increasing to 13.2 Billion for 2008.

There are 2 other things that need to be in the legislation. It should be defined as legal only as a US Agricultural crop. Importing would be illegal. There would have to be a new department within the department of Agriculture to specifically deal with the process of getting a product from seed to shelf, in a way that can be regulated fairly and taxed for education. Amnesty should be awarded to relieve the already overburdened corrections systems nationwide and to encourage professionals to come forward as agricultural consultants or themselves farmers.

I am surprised that it hasn't been done already. Lots of money to be made. If they think that all these casinos are making them money, they would be amazed at what legalization of M J would bring home. I am all for it. Its legal in Amsterdam and has been for years. It is controlled. Things are working out great there.

You would not necessarily have to regulate pot at the point of production. Take cigarettes and liquor, for example. They are regulated at the point of distribution in most states. It could be taxed at that stage.

The biggest problem with your proposal, however, is how to determine whether people are DUI. I don't think the tests are accurate or timely. Therefore, the only real option is to let people drive or work while stoned, or keep it illegal.

Here here. But, does it not feel like we are talking to a Fu**ing WALL most of the time?! I whole heartedly agree with everything you have said and your facts are accurate. Sadly, unless we can successfuly vote in a third party system, I just can't see this NEEDED change happening.

That is a really good point of veiw. You should totally send it to your legislature to see what can happen with it-

We really do need to improve our school systems in this country we're of the most powerful countries- and the least educated.

the thing is, so many people can grow it that they can't regulate it and therefore tax it.
but i think the reduction in expense resulting from non-criminalization would be a benefit in itself!
