i am not looking for judgement from you people on here.
1- i have not smoked "pot" since before i was pregnant- and was COURIOUS as to what effect it would have on the baby IF i did.
2-you are no better than me. even if i smoke CRACK- you are human i am human so we are equal.
3-children exposed to drugs as infants may have developmental problems, but being rude and such comes from their upbringing.
4-shouldn't someone at least appalaud me for looking into the bfacts before i do anything?????

Well, I'll list a good website below. I applaud you for breastfeeding. It's a really good thing and the bond between you and your baby no one else can ever experience. I think it's good that you're looking into the effects drugs have on your baby. I just look at it like this. I would like to go out and drink occasionally and I've been nursing for 5 months now. I can withold for 7 to 9 more months are so. I do go out every once in a while and get to drink, but I have to work extra hard just for one night and pump extra for 2 days... Not every drug you take while nursing is harmful to the baby, but marijuana is... Like birth control, they should give you a special kind if you're nursing. Other meds have to be different as well. Just sit back and think about it. If you really feel like you need it then don't nurse. Atleast you've tried and it doesn't work for everybody. Formula is okay too... I definatley am not telling you what to do and how to do it, I'm just giving you suggestions and different ways of thinking about it. I'm not being judgemental and don't want you to think so. I wouldn't do it and never have. But I am a single mom of a 5 month old beautiful baby girl and nursings hard when you're alone! Be careful and just think of your babys best interest. So the people that judge tell them to judge on!!!

Well I don't know were to go for that info. Some studdys say THC is excreated threw breast milk but other say it is not. My mom smoked and breast feed me when i was a baby. The only thing that she saw and I now see with my baby is they are really fat and like to eat a lot. I have not noticed any extra sleepyness or anything else. I was ahead of the game developmentaly and so is my baby now. My personal opintion and yes i know a lot of you are not going to like this but Marijuana is no diffent then taking Herbs heck it is an herb. There is nothing wrong with it. So smoke up and be happy. Children from what I can tell have no negitive effect from it, but every child is differnt. Just keep an eye on your little one and thye should be fine.

I know personally of some that do and lots that would never.
Just like the Nicotene in cigarettes, the THC in marijuana can be found in the blood of a nursing baby. The biggest known risk is the mother rendering herself incapable of properly caring for her baby because she is "high".
You could also call a La Leche League Leader in your area. They have a book called "The Breastfeeding Answer Book" and it contains useful information on different drugs and Mothers Milk.

I can't remember the site off the top of my head, but google pharmacology and breastfeeding. There is a guy who is reknowed researcher in the area of drugs and breastmilk. His site was very useful!

Just common sense says don't do it, b/c even if it had no effect on your baby, you could still loose custody if the sate found out!! It is not wise, not safe, and not worth it!

Leading medical authority Dr. Thomas Hale, PhD, author of Medications and Mothers' Milk places marijuana in the highest risk category. Marijuana is rapidly distributed to brain and fat tissue and is stored in the body for long periods of time, making it unsafe for baby.

Mothers who use marijuana while nursing can have eight times as much marijuana accumulation in breastmilk as compared to their own blood. Additionally, infants exposed to marijuana via breastmilk can test positive in urine screens for up to 2-3 weeks.

I found this on this website:
http://pregnancyandbaby.com/pregnancy/baby/Smoking-marijuana-while-breastfeeding-5575.htm

Found this:
Marijuana can cause sleepiness in the baby, which can lead to slow weight gain and possibly slow overall development in the baby long term. In addition, babies whose mothers smoke marijuana regularly have a higher risk of SIDS.

Good luck with your decision

Personally if I was breast feeding I probably wouldn't smoke weed. I don't know about the effects, but I am sure you would not like to hurt your baby in any way. That is probably why I formula feed . . .

Please don't be an abuser!!!!

Stop smokoing pot. There is nothing worse than working with teens (taken away due to neglect) who have been subjected to drugs as infants. They grow up to be oppositional, rude, sad, and angry. F=Do your child and yourself a favor and grow up! Get a job and stop hurting your child's future!! Do not breast feed while smoking pot in the past thirty days.
You suck, dude!!

Here's some info.

DON'T DO IT! Anything that you eat, drink, smoke, etc. can be expelled in breast milk.

All I know is that it can come through the milk, just like alcohol!
