In the end Jonas and the Giver decide Jonas will leave the Community so the memories can be spread out into the Community and they would all know color, love, etc. and the Giver would "help" them the same way he "helped" Jonas and Jonas takes Gabriel with him because he finds out the baby was going to be released and felt sorry for him. So they go through the wilderness for days until he reaches a hill he remembered from the very first memory he received of sleigh riding and the sled was waiting for him at the top of the hill so he gets on it with Gabriel and he sees the house in which he was in when he got the memory of Christmas and he could hear music from the house, and he could also hear music from behind him, from the Community he had left, so he knew the Giver was already helping them because they never knew music. It was what the Giver called "hearing beyond". And that's the end. and no the giver doesn't die. omg like what a coincidence my class finished reading this book like a few weeks ago lol by the way i have a question, why did you ask this in the amusement parks section?

The Giver is a soft science fiction novel written by Lois Lowry and published on April 16, 1993. It is set in a future society which is at first presented as a utopia and gradually appears more and more dystopic, so could therefore be considered anti-utopian. The novel follows a boy named Jonas through the twelfth year of his life. Jonas' society has eliminated pain and strife by converting to "Sameness", a move which has also eradicated emotional depth from their lives. Jonas is selected to inherit the position of "Receiver of Memory," the person who stores all the memories of the time before Sameness, in case they are ever needed. As Jonas receives the memories from his predecessor—the Giver—he discovers how shallow his community's life has become.

I really like the book the ending was freaking confusing, basically the boy and the baby get away and find a new world\ "Dymention". It makes more since when you read the sequel "Gathering blue",they kind of tell you more about the last book.

If you were supposed to read this for class but didn't, I'm not sure that many people will give you the answer to that question. I would search online if I were you.
