Through Yahoo Answers, I already know that "A spud washer is the seal between the toilet bowl and the water tank just above it. It keeps the water from leaking all over the bowl every time you flush.".....but I need to know what the more detailed term means, as well.

The nut that secures the spud washer requires a full open spud wrench to tighten it. This is a special tool because the size of the spud nut is too big for most wrenches.
